June 20, 2025Designers chose Clayhaus for Limon Palm Springs renovation
We are mid-century modern enthusiasts. Our name, Clayhaus, derives from the Bauhaus movement and its influences on modernist architecture and modern design. We’ve used those two sentences to describe our inspiration since we first started. Nowhere are those influences more evident than in California’s Coachella Valley, home to Modernism Week Palm Springs, held each February since 2005 to celebrate the valley’s many iconic examples of mid-century modern architecture and design.
Modernism Week 2025 featured Limon Palm Springs, a chic seven-bedroom private escape in South Palm Springs inspired by the optimistic era and continental graphics and style of the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Originally a 1964 apartment house called Stuart Manor, Limon was renovated in 2020 into a short-term rental property by H3K, a local design studio. It was featured as part of Modernism Week 2021 before making an encore appearance this year.
Recently we learned almost by accident that Clayhaus Tile is a prominent part of the Limon renovation. Our Signal Collection is featured in Limon’s communal kitchen and Wax Wane, from our Topo Collection, is in the bathrooms of some units. the designers chose our Mellow Gold glaze for both, complementing other yellow hues found throughout the project.
We’ve always felt certain our work is true to its inspiration. Being featured prominently in a mid-century modern design firm’s project that was included in Modernism Week Palm Springs not just once, but twice? We now feel validated.
Ironically, we might never have known about the Limon connection were it not for neo-modern technology… When we asked a recent customer how she found us, she said, “I found your company by using a photo from Limon and running it through Lens, an AI app in Google photos. Your tile wasn’t credited in the photo, but AI found it.”
Modern is as modern does, we guess.
